(BPRW) Billy Thompson Foundation Hosts Annual Summer Sneaker Slam

(Black PR Wire) Join us on August 31, 2024, 10 a.m. at the Oveta McKeithan Recreational Complex in Deerfield Beach, Florida for the Annual Billy Thompson Foundation Back to School Sneaker Slam. This community event will not only distribute more than backpacks and sneakers to 200 middle and high school students, but provide free medical screenings and dental cleanings, plus feature a reading mobile experience for students along with food and entertainment.

“Our Foundation’s Summer Sneaker Slam brings families and community together to celebrate our youth while helping to provide a sense of worthiness for our children,” said Billy Thompson, founder, and president of the foundation. “Many of our kids struggle with mental health plus social and emotional challenges during their adolescent years and we want them to know that they are loved and have our full support.” Thompson along with other former NBA players are excited about this great opportunity to provide hope and give back to young people.

According to Thompson, studies have shown that a solid well-fitting pair of sneakers allows children to feel a sense of belonging among their peers and worry less about their appearance, which in turn empowers them to focus on their classes. “Middle and high school peer pressure can be brutal”, stated Thompson, a former Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers two-time champion. “We hope these donations will assist family members with the rising cost of clothing for their students.”

For the past ten years, the Billy Thompson Foundation has assisted countless young people to pursue higher aspirations through college or vocational training. Our programs provide comprehensive programming to rehabilitate troubled youth, build character, cultivate literacy, and to create opportunities for personal achievement and success.
