(Black PR Wire) BIRMINGHAM, AL — Today, Chris Anderson formally announced his candidacy for Jefferson County Sheriff. His campaign is grounded in decades of law enforcement experience, community commitment, and a career dedicated to seeking the truth.
From his earliest days in public service, Anderson has built a reputation for diligence, compassion, and results. His 30-year career with the Birmingham Police Department, combined with his national recognition through A&E’s The First 48 and Investigation Discovery’s Reasonable Doubt, has positioned him as a trusted voice on public safety and justice reform.
Anderson began his law enforcement career in 1995, inspired by his mother, Sergeant Jessica Anderson—a trailblazing member of the Birmingham Police Department and one of its first African American female officers. Over the next two decades, he served the citizens of Birmingham in patrol, special operations, and homicide investigation, investigating more than 300 cases and maintaining one of the department’s highest clearance rates.
He also served as a supervisor in fugitive operations, leading efforts to identify and apprehend violent offenders across Jefferson County.
“I’ve devoted my life to protecting this community,” Anderson said. “I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our officers face and the impact crime has on families. I believe Jefferson County deserves a leader who listens, acts, and leads with integrity.”
Anderson’s work earned national attention through his appearances on A&E’s The First 48, where he gave viewers an inside look at the human side of homicide investigations in Birmingham. After retiring from the force in 2016, he continued his pursuit of justice as co-host of Reasonable Doubt on the Investigation Discovery network.
The show built a national following, highlighting Anderson’s continued dedication to fairness and accountability.
“As a detective, my job was to find the truth,” Anderson said. “As Sheriff, my mission will be to make sure that truth and fairness guide every investigation, every decision, and every interaction with our citizens.”
Anderson currently serves as Chief of Police at Talladega College, where he mentors the next generation of law enforcement professionals and teaches criminal justice.
