(BPRW) U.S. Bank Celebrates Black History Month with Sponsorship of For Love of Liberty: The Story of Americas Black Patriots

(BLACK PR WIRE) (January 28, 2010) BUSINESS WIRE) -- U.S. Bank is celebrating Black History Month with the sponsorship of For Love of Liberty: The Story of Americas Black Patriots, which premiers on most Public Broadcasting System (PBS) stations nationwide in February.
The film, co-written, directed and produced by Frank Martin and 10 years in the making, honors the military service of African American patriots dating back to the Revolutionary War, generations before their own freedom was declared through the Emancipation Proclamation. Their stories are told through letters, diaries, speeches and historical records that are dramatically re-enacted and recited by a vast ensemble of highly recognized celebrities and public figures.
I encourage everyone to watch this film because the heroic stories at its heart are relevant to all Americans and clearly illustrate the price of liberty, said Martin, whose notable productions about John Houston, MGM, CBS and Ewing Marion Kauffman have earned him both Emmy and Sundance awards.
U.S. Bank is promoting the film with branch signage in select markets and is spreading the news to its base of more than 60,000 employees. The company will also ask employees who are currently serving or who have served in the military to share stories of their service, which will be celebrated in conjunction with the films release and events leading up to Veterans Day.
U.S. Bank is honored to provide support to this documentary, which reflects our commitment to diversity and also our deep appreciation to all of the men and women who are serving, and have served in our nations military, said Richard Hartnack, vice chairman for consumer banking at U.S. Bank, who is also a veteran of the Vietnam War flying 220 combat missions during that conflict as a captain in the United States Marine Corps.
Presented by Maryland Public Television, For Love of Liberty: The Story of Americas Black Patriots was made in full cooperation with the U.S. Army, and is also sponsored by Ford Motor Company and State Farm. The four-hour, high-definition (HD) film will air in two parts. Visit www.forloveofliberty.com to find local broadcast dates and times or to learn more about the film.
