(BLACK PR WIRE)--WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UnitedHealthcare and the historic Howard Theatre, located at 620 T Street, Northwest, are launching the Howard Theatre’s Black Classic Cinema Series, a monthly program showcasing seminal works of black cinema.

In recognition of June’s Black Music Month, the new campaign kicks off Saturday, June 9, at the Howard Theatre with a viewing of “Stormy Weather,” a pioneering 1943 musical starring an African-American cast, and a performance by Blacks in Wax, an innovative educational youth group dedicated to African-American history and culture. In addition, UnitedHealthcare will round out the day’s activities with a Medicare education seminar to help D.C.-area seniors, other Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers better understand their health care options.

Additional events will be held at the Howard Theatre, churches and community centers in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area from June through September.

“The Howard Theatre Restoration Inc. is honored to host a program that supports the pillars of our community,” said Dr. Rodney L. Ellis, chairman of Howard Theatre Restoration Inc. “As we partner with UnitedHealthcare to launch this campaign for seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries, we are reminded of the significance of Black Music Month and the rich tradition of the Howard Theatre.”

“UnitedHealthcare is honored to join the Howard Theatre in celebrating Black Music Month and helping D.C.-area seniors, other Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers learn more about their health care options,” said Mary Anna Demas, UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement regional manager. “We hope to make it easier for people to get the information they need to make an informed decision regarding their health care coverage and encourage interested members of the public from D.C., Virginia and Maryland to attend.”
