(BLACK PR WIRE) – On February 20th, 2013, Black PR Wire teamed up with Business Wire to present “Preparing for a Future in Communications,” an online webinar and the first session of the 2013 Minority Leadership Series launched in honor of Black History Month. Raschanda Hall, global media relations manager for Business Wire, moderated a panel of HBCU graduates with distinguished careers in journalism and public relations.

Panel members included Ronald Childs of Flowers Communications, Vince McGraw of the Detroit News, Anita Blanton of WAVY-TV, and Greg Lee of the Sun-Sentinel. They responded to moderator and audience questions, shared aspects of their career histories, and gave advice to help students and young professionals achieve their goals.

Some issues they stressed were the importance of internships, getting connected with mentors, being willing to relocate for the right opportunities, cultivating the image for the desired career, keeping a portfolio of work samples, accepting constructive critiquing, connecting with an audience, and recognizing the contributions of an ethnic perspective in the media environment.

The second webinar session, “Leveraging Opportunities for Strategic Partnerships,” takes place February 27th 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST and will be moderated by Black PR Wire founder and CEO Bernadette Morris. Panelists for this session include Danita King of PRNoir, Cyn Davis of ICF International, James Andrews of Social People, and Alexis Davis Smith of PRecise Communications. The panelists will discuss how partnerships can grow a business, and how the right organizations can connect with each other.
