(BPRW) Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert III joins Center for Family and Child Enrichment Inc.'s 5K Run/Walkathon - "Change a Life" in support of National Foster Care Month

(BLACK PR WIRE) – May is National Foster Care Month and the Center for Family and Child Enrichment Inc. (CFCE), one of the oldest and largest child welfare agencies in Miami Gardens is hosting its 4th annual 5K Run/Walkathon on Saturday, May 18th, 2013. The event will take place at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreation Complex located at 3000 NW 199 Street, Miami Gardens, Florida 33055, benefiting programs and services offered to children and families in their care.

Each May, National Foster Care Month provides an opportunity for people all across the nation to focus attention on the year-round needs of American children and youth in foster care. The campaign raises awareness about foster care and encourages many more citizens to get involved in the lives of these youth -- whether as their foster or adoptive parents, volunteers, mentors, employers or in other ways.

CFCE is pleased to have the support of Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert III as Grand Marshal again this year, along with George Williams, former U.S.A. Olympic Track and Field Coach, who is also a native Floridian.

The 5K Run/Walk will start at 8 am sharp with registration beginning at 7 am. Participants of all ages are invited to join this local event celebrating the loving, caring adults who are making a positive difference in the lives of children and youth in foster care. Registration donation is $25 and children walk/run for free. Other activities include free health education, pediatric dental screenings, demonstrations by Kuk Mu Kwan Elite Tae Kwon Do and the Miami Gardens Soul Steppers, awards and other giveaways. Sponsors include: ContinuCare, Lakewood Organic Juices, Kind Healthy Snacks, City of Miami Gardens, Axiom Advisors, Humana and Costco to name a few.

For further information on the 5K walk/run, contact the Center for Family and Child Enrichment Inc. at (305) 624-7450, extension 1724 or 1737.
