(BPRW) CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS PRESENTS "FATHER ME" FAMILY FESTIVAL ON FEBRUARY 15TH

(BLACK PR WIRE) – Many homes today are faced with the issue of absent fathers. Children with absent fathers are significantly at a greater risk of drug and alcohol abuse, poor education, mental illness, teen pregnancy, suicide, loss of identity, and criminal activities. In fact, statistics show that 62% of juvenile offenders grew up without a father or fatherhood figure.

To combat these alarming stats, Mayor Oliver Gilbert and Myofilms, Inc. have joined forces to present the “Father Me” Family Festival in Miami Gardens. The event takes place on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 12-5 p.m. at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199 Street, in Miami Gardens.

“Father Me is a documentary film focusing on fathers and how they affect the children and the community,” said Mayor Oliver Gilbert. “Get ready to learn, laugh and play in a moving way!”

Highlights of the event include celebrity hosts, live music, games, face painting, and much more! The documentary brings awareness to the issue of the need for absent fathers to be more active with their families and communities, as well as the positive influence that the role of an active father can bring to the lives of their children, particularly young males.

Incorporated in 2003, the City of Miami Gardens is the third largest City in Miami Dade County and the largest predominantly black city south of Atlanta. Its new city hall is the only Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design public facility in America. From restaurants, shopping, and concerts to parks, recreation, and sports, the City of Miami Gardens offers something for everyone. The City is home to the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Football, and two world-class universities – Florida Memorial University and St. Thomas University.
