(BPRW) John G. Riley Center/Museum Unveils New Digital Kiosk Exhibit while Capturing that Unforgettable Smokey Hollow Spirit that Made the Community so Special

(BLACK PR WIRE) "" TALLAHASSEE - The public is cordially invited to attend a special ceremony at the John G. Riley Center/Museum on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 5:30""7:30 P.M. The purpose of the event is to personally thank the public for their support of the museum's mission to educate, archive, and illuminate the rich African American history of Tallahassee and to preserve the legacy of John G. Riley and the Smokey Hollow Community

The 1950's "juke-joint" themed Wine & Cheese Reception will feature a special menu inspired by indigenous food & wine selections, a live band and culminate with the unveiling of a new digital touchscreen kiosk (a vintage 1939 Wurlitzer jukebox). This new addition to the Riley Museum Visitor's Center serves to highlight primary sources of oral histories, photographs and memories from families who once called Smokey Hollow home.

All activities will be held at the NEW Riley Visitor Center (adjacent to) the historic Riley House Museum located at 419 East Jefferson Street, which brilliantly captures the spirit of the people that once occupied the area, now known as Cascades Park/Smokey Hollow Village. Free parking is available in the parking lot on West Pensacola and South Meridian Streets (just south of the Riley Museum) and ample metered on-street as well. Non-museum members are more than welcome to attend the event to gain awareness of one of Tallahassee's greatest cultural gems!

This public use project was made possible through the substantial funding support of the joint City of Tallahassee/Leon County Council on Culture and Arts (COCA) and the event is being underwritten by our generous benefactor, The Capelouto Family. Additional support from In Tents Events, Waddell & Reed Financial Advisors and the Ahmed Temple #37 have helped in making this event possible. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 is a very special day for the John G. Riley Center & Museum.

This day also marks the 157th Birthday of Mr. John Gilmore Riley, the community pioneer for which the museum is named, and will pay tribute to his legacy and leadership within the Tallahassee community. The Riley Museum is dedicated to discovering and recovering the history of the Smokey Hollow Community in Cascades Park and is open for tours from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Monday through Thursday; 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Friday and Saturday. (Museum Admission: $2 for General Public | $1 Seniors age 55 and over | $1 Children age 12 and under).
