(BPRW) Psychologists and Activists Nationwide to Join Ferguson in Hosting Healing Initiatives This Weekend

(BLACK PR WIRE) -- The Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) and Community Healing Network, Inc. (CHN) today announced that when they introduce Emotional Emancipation (EE) CirclesSM , a grassroots healing initiative, in Missouri this weekend, Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, they will be joined in spirit with activists holding simultaneous events across the country. Psychologists and activists will host EE CirclesSM in New Haven, CT, Tuskegee, AL, Baltimore, MD, Los Angeles, CA, Oakland, CA, and Portland, OR. EE Circle activists in the Caribbean, the UK, and Cuba will also be joining in spirit.

EE CirclesSM are support groups in which Black people are working together to overcome and overturn the lie of Black inferiority--the root cause of the persistent devaluing of Black lives: people like Michael Brown in Ferguson, Tamir Rice in Cleveland, and Eric Garner in New York City.

Dr. Chante DeLoach, chair of Emotional Emancipation Initiatives for ABPsi, and driving force behind this weekend’s EE Circles campaign, said “there is absolute power in being able to stand in solidarity and come together collectively across the nation to empower and heal persons of African ancestry.”

According to Enola Aird, founder and president of CHN, creator and steward of the EE Circles concept, “hosts will be providing safe spaces where we can comfort one another, reflect on Ferguson, and the most recent blow, the case of Eric Garner, in the light of history, and talk about how we can, finally, free ourselves and the world from the lie of Black inferiority.”

Dr. Cheryl Tawede Grills, immediate past president of ABPsi, who will lead the Missouri workshops and trainings, said, “it’s wonderful to know that as we work toward healing in and around Ferguson that we will be joined and supported by so many people across the country and the world.”

“These simultaneous gatherings will support healing in Ferguson, and, as important, they will support healing for Black people wherever we are,” said Dr. Taasogle Daryl Rowe, president of ABPsi.

This is the most recent in a series of initiatives growing out of a four-year collaboration between CHN and ABPsi.
