(Black PR Wire) ATLANTA – May 18, 2016 –“Comic Edge,” a new series from ASPiRE, will provide non-stop laughter on real-life topics through sketch comedy, stand-up and improv. Host Robert Powell and guest comedians find laugh-out-loud humor in everything from politics to dating and pop culture starting with the series’ premiere on Thursday, May 26 at 10 p.m. EDT.
“We are excited about this edgy and entertaining new series that will introduce ASPiRE viewers to fresh faces and new voices of up and coming comedians,” said Melissa Ingram, vice president, channel operations and business affairs, ASPiRE. “Robert Powell is a rising star and given his unique humor and stand-out performance in ‘Laff Mobb’s We Got Next,’ we were moved to partner with him to bring comedic stories of urban culture to life in ‘Comic Edge.’”
Powell began doing comedy in college as a dare and has been doing it ever since, building a comedy resume that has included hosting, opening, featuring or touring with the likes of Kevin Hart, Lil Duval, Rickey Smiley, Mike Epps, DL Hughley, Rodney Perry, Cedric the Entertainer, Ron White and others. Powell was named Louisiana’s Comedian of the Year three years in a row and was discovered by executives of Shaq All Star Comedy Jam at their first Shaq Next All Star Competition in 2011. Other comedians featured in the series include Sydney Castillo (Fifty Shades of Black), Trey Moe (American Dirtbags) and Donnivin Jordan (“Laff Mobb’s We Got Next”).
“Comic Edge” is executive produced by Powell, Daniel Paul (“Laff Mobb’s We Got Next”) and Arthur Spivak (“Mad About You,” “Laff Mobb’s We Got Next”). ASPiRE has ordered eight half-hour episodes of the series.
