(BPRW) 'Coming 2 America' trailer: Eddie Murphy is back as Prince Akeem and back at the barbershop

(Black PR Wire) Eddie Murphy is back.

The first trailer for "Coming 2 America" debuted Tuesday ahead of the film's Amazon Prime release on March 5, 2021, giving fans the most detailed look yet at the sequel to the beloved 1988 comedy.

King Jaffe (James Earl Jones) is on his deathbed and advises son Prince Akeem (Murphy) that he will soon take over the throne. But as the line of succession is poised to change, new information arises about the prince's past.

"Akeem, it appears you have a son who must be found," the king tells him. And so it's back to America for another adventure.

"Oh hell no, your majesty," replies his sidekick, Semmi (Arsenio Hall).

In the original 1988 film, Prince Akeem Joffer is torn between the long-held traditions of his country, the fictional African nation Zamunda, or building a new life in the United States. Thirty-two years later, Akeem must once again travel from Zamunda to America, this time to search for his son.

Back in New York, the duo encounters some new faces: actors Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Teyanna Taylor and KiKi Layne.

For all the new faces, there are still plenty of old ones: namely, the many faces of Murphy. In a reprise of his iconic multi-character scene, Akeem returns to the same barbershop he visited more than 30 years ago, again greeted by multiple characters played by the comedian himself.

"It is so good to see you," Murphy as Akeem says while walking in to the shop.

"Well, I'll be damned," replies Murphy as barber Clarence. "Look who done come up in here."
