(BPRW) ESSENCE Announces Internationally-Focused Expansion of Fashion & Beauty Content with Two Key Editorial Appointments

Marielle Bobo Joins as Fashion Director; Julee Wilson Named Director of Global Beauty

(Black PR Wire) NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE) -- ESSENCE Communications, the number one media, technology and Commerce Company serving Black women, today announced two key editorial appointments to support an extensive, internationally-focused expansion of the brand’s fashion & beauty content across its print, digital and experiential properties. Marielle Bobo has joined ESSENCE as Fashion Director and Julee Wilson has been named ESSENCE Director of Global Beauty.

“With a global influence and uniquely cultural perspective, ESSENCE continues to set the standard for Black women in beauty and style throughout the Diaspora,” said Moana Luu, Chief Content and Creative Officer for ESSENCE. “Under the combined leadership and creative direction of Julee and Marielle, we are poised to celebrate our beauty and distinctive style in new and imaginative ways. We are deepening our content offerings to inform, inspire and engage our community of women worldwide around diverse images and positive self-expression.”

In the role of Fashion Director, Marielle will define ESSENCE’s fashion aesthetic and reinforce its inclusive, multinational approach, with responsibility for driving, assigning and editing in-depth fashion coverage across all of ESSENCE’s channels. Most recently, Marielle was the Executive Director of Style and Special Projects for Interactive One and was a key member of the launch team for CASSIUS, the company’s men-focused lifestyle platform. Bobo began her impressive career as an agent at Wilhelmina Models. She soon transitioned to Allure magazine as a market editor covering accessories and fashion. Later, Bobo joined the style department at Hearst Magazine’s CosmoGirl and would go on to lend her expertise in various fashion and beauty editorial roles with Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), Vanity Fair, Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar, later becoming Senior Fashion Editor at ESSENCE and Fashion & Beauty Director at EBONY.

As Director of Global Beauty, Julee will expand ESSENCE’s vision and perspective on beauty to encompass global cultures and manage a cross-functional team of editors focused on key content verticals, including hair, skin, make up and more. Since joining the brand in 2016, Wilson has served as Digital Fashion and Beauty Director and as Fashion and Beauty Director, responsible for leading a team of editors to create compelling print, digital and experiential content---which includes event programming for the massive, multi-market ESSENCE Beauty Carnival. In her role, she also contributes to the conceptualization and execution of ESSENCE’s new beauty podcast, The Color Files.
