(BPRW) Florida Power & Light Company partners with museum celebrating Caribbean history and heritage

(Black PR Wire) On Nov. 16, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) joined other community partners to celebrate the soft opening of the Island SPACE Caribbean Museum. The day’s events were spaced out into three visitations to allow for social distancing and strict adherence to COVID-19 protocol.

The non-profit museum, the first of its kind in the United States, is a unique opportunity for South Florida residents and visitors to experience authentic Caribbean culture through interactive displays and art exhibits. The museum is dedicated to supporting independent artists, organizations and groups that delivers high-level presentations, in various art forms. 

In partnership with FPL, The Island SPACE Caribbean Museum will offer visitors the opportunity to learn about and enjoy the celebration of Caribbean culture through art, history, literature and educational initiatives that represent the Caribbean region, in South Florida and the broader diaspora community.

“Advancing meaningful initiatives, celebrating various cultures and making a positive contribution toward racial equality is part of our commitment to working with the communities we serve to make Florida an even better place to live, work and raise a family, said Juliet Roulhac, FPL’s director external affairs.

Juliet presented a $20,000 check to Calibe Thompson, the museum’s executive director to kick-off the two-year partnership commitment and to celebrate the grand opening of the museum, scheduled for Jan. 2021.

FPL is honored to be the proud sponsor of the Music display that features instruments, garments, equipment and other keepsakes from Caribbean musicians. The showcase will also feature music greats from across the region of Caribbean heritage and the genres of lesser known island music.
