(BPRW) HOWARD UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT FREDERICK NAMES NEW CHIEF OF STAFF

(Black PR Wire) Howard University President Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick named D. Paul Monteiro, Jr. as the new Chief of Staff for the Office of the President. He will begin his duties June 5, 2017.

Monteiro will serve as a member of President Frederick’s senior management team. In this role, he will be responsible for directing the overall operations of the Office of the President and will interface with Cabinet members, Board of Trustees and University stakeholders.

Monteiro brings over a decade of governmental, nonprofit and higher education experience. He has gained expertise working at the White House and across all branches of the federal government in several key roles. Most recently, he led the Community Relations Service at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the program created by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to help to mitigate community tensions in high-profile discrimination cases by working with elected officials, law enforcement executives, protest leaders, advocacy groups and other relevant stakeholders.

Monteiro will replace former Chief of Staff Mrs. LaRue Barkwell who has retired after 40 years of service at Howard University. She is currently serving in the President’s office to aid with the transition.
