(Black PR Wire) BROWARD COUNTY, FL -  Recently, Broward County announced the appointment of Tracy Jackson as Director of Regional Public Safety/Emergency Services. Jackson will lead the operations of the Office of Regional Communications and Technology, which manages Broward County’s consolidated regional E-911 system, and Emergency Management Division, which is responsible for emergency planning response, mitigation and recovery activities. He'll start later this month.

Jackson began his 21-year career in public safety with the City of Miami Fire-Rescue Department in 1982 as a certified firefighter, quickly earning Paramedic and Miami Police SWAT certifications and becoming a HazMat Technician. During this time, he also served as a part-time Basic Life Support/First Responder and CPR instructor at Miami-Dade’s Institute of Criminal Justice.

In 1990, he was promoted to Lieutenant and, in 1991 became the youngest person to serve as Division Chief of Support Services, responsible for leading logistics, including keeping the department’s buildings and equipment in a state of readiness and good repair. Jackson’s ingenuity in responding to challenges after Hurricane Andrew hit Miami-Dade County in 1992 earned him a variety of leadership roles. He served as Miami Fire Rescue's Assistant Chief of Communications and Management Services, responsible for major information and communication technology initiatives as well as telephone systems, portable and fixed radios, mobile devices and fire alerting systems. He managed Miami Fire Rescue’s 911 Call Center, responsible for call taking, emergency radio dispatch and coordination of onscene activities. Under Jackson’s leadership, the Call Center operated under the highest standards of excellence for emergency dispatch, with an accreditation as a Center of Excellence from National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAEMD).

He also served as City of Miami Rescue's Deputy Chief of Administration managing a $54 million operating budget and the Department’s capital improvement program.

Jackson lives in Miramar and works with a local faith-based nonprofit organization, leading a team of staff and volunteers.
