(BPRW) Phanord & Associates and partner agencies recognize National Children’s Dental Health Month

(Black PR Wire) February is National Children's Dental Health Month (NCDHM). The American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors this observance to raise awareness about the importance of dental health for children. This year's theme  is "Sealants Make Sense."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), sealants have been shown to reduce the risk of decay by nearly 80% in molars. This is especially important when it comes to children's dental health. Children aged 6 to 11 years without sealants have almost 3 times more first-molar cavities than children with sealants.

"The parental knowledge and awareness of preventative practices play a vital role in improving children's oral health," said Dr. Margot Jobson, Pediatric Dentist at Phanord & Associates, P.A. "Observances as NCDHM help us raise awareness of preventative methods and encourage parents to provide their children with primary care."

It's never too early to practice good oral hygiene. Teaching your kids how to take care of their teeth is a practice that will benefit them for the rest of their life.

Here are some basic preventive steps to help our children maintain optimal dental health:

  • Continue to schedule regular dental appointments and pediatric dental check-ups.
  • Provide healthy snacks for school lunches.
  • Limit sugar consumption.
  • Buy a new toothbrush every three months. Let your child pick out the color or design.
  • Help your child brush until they have good brushing skills.
  • Keep track of daily brushing habits. Your child should brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Ask your child's dentist to apply dental sealants when appropriate.
