(BPRW) THE DUSABLE MUSEUM ANNOUNCES 2023 JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION

A DAY FILLED WITH FAMILY FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES SPONSORED BY iHEART MEDIA CHICAGO

(Black PR Wire) CHICAGO – In honor of Juneteenth, (June 19, 1865), the day more than 200,000 enslaved African Americans in Confederate states were declared free, The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center will present a day-long Juneteenth Celebration on Monday, June 19, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM. including activities, performances, and discussions suitable for the entire family.  AS part of the festivity line up, the museum will host “Hip Hop Communiversity: A Conversation Celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop.” This panel discussion scheduled for 2:00 PM will feature Hip Hop legend, Kool Moe Dee; author and culture critic Robert “Scoop” Jackson, Dr. Louis “Pancho” McFarland, Professor of Sociology at Chicago State University, and music industry legend George Daniels. Kool Moe Dee will also take the stage to perform many of his hits during a special “tribute” for the 50th anniversary of hip hop later that afternoon.  

The DuSable’s 2023 Juneteenth Celebration is free and open to the public, and the day will also include: a family-friendly games station; African Marketplace; musical performances by the Ragged Blade Band, Angel Bat Dawid , Patch of Blues, SOL, Kendre and more. Additional performances will include the Drum Village, and a set by 13-year-old DJ Air One. There will also be a “Hip Hop Yoga” session with Jasmine Weaver; Children’s Pavilion with horseback rides, inflatable’s, arts & crafts activities and a petting zoo. In addition; Author’s Pavilion; food tastings and giveaways; the University of Chicago Health Pavilion; an Adult Lounge and a community BBQ (BYOG-Bring Your Own Grill).
